Honda Announces Sales for August 1996 and the Calendar-Year-to-Date

American Honda Year-To-Date Sales Increases Continue; Acura Sales Up
For 11 Straight Months
TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 4 -- Year-to-date total American
Honda sales of 565,338 are up 6.4 percent compared to 1995 levels,
according to sales figures released today by American Honda Motor
Company. Acura Division sales of 71,817 are up 9.8 percent
year-to-date and with Honda Division sales of 493,521 are up 5.9
percent.
Acura Division August sales of 10,900 were up 5.2 percent, the 11th
consecutive month Acura has posted a monthly increase and its best
sales month in two years. Honda Division sales of 64,780, hampered by
low Civic and Accord inventories, were down 16.3 percent. Total
American Honda August sales of 75,680 were down 13.7 percent, compared
to August 1995's all-time monthly sales record.
Contributing to the Acura momentum is the new 1997 Acura CL Sports
Coupe, which has been in short supply. The CL enjoyed its best month
since its introduction last March, with 2,092 units. The TL Series
showed double-digit increases for August with sales of 2,277, up 13.5
percent over last year.
Year-to-date sales increases for the Honda Accord and Civic also
continue, with Accord sales up 7.4 percent and Civic sales running 2.2
percent ahead of last year's all-time record.
