Nissan Announces Sales for August 1996 and the Calendar-Year-to-Date

Nissan Reports August Sales - Pathfinder and Altima Post Best August Ever

CARSON, Calif., Sept. 4 -- Nissan Division of Nissan
Motor Corporation U.S.A. today reported total August vehicle sales of
75,618 units, up 0.5 percent.

In the sixth month after its all-new model launch, the Nissan
Pathfinder posted its best August ever with 7,922 units sold, up 7.4
percent versus last August. Calendar year-to-date sales for Pathfinder
are 43,382, up 10.9 percent.

The Nissan Altima, which ranked best model in its segment according to
J.D. Power and Associates' 1996 Initial Quality Study, also recorded
its best August ever with sales of 17,063, up 24.9 percent.

The Nissan Sentra turned in sales of 13,231 units, marking a 6.1
percent increase over last year. Nissan's flagship sedan, the Maxima,
recorded August sales of 12,693 units, bringing total sedan sales for
August to 42,987, up 5.6 percent.

The Nissan truck had its best August in six years, with sales of
15,837, up 15.1 percent. The hot-selling Nissan Pathfinder, Truck and
Quest posted combined August sales of 28,526 units.

Sales of Nissan's North American-produced vehicles totaled 53,801
units in August, accounting for 71.1 percent of all Nissan vehicles
sold in the United States last month. Total Nissan Motor Corporation
U.S.A.  (NMC) sales for August, including Infiniti Division, were
82,068 units, up 2 percent from last year.
