Sales Surpass Model-Year Record in 11 Months


AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 29 -- Chrysler Corporation
announced today that its U.S. sales total for the 1996 model
year has set a record with more than a month remaining in the model
year.

Chrysler's dealers sold 2,189,420 new Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge,
Jeep(R) and Eagle vehicles in the United States from October 1, 1995,
through August 28, 1996. The previous record for a full model year --
October 1 through September 30 -- was 1994's 2,186,128.

Chrysler's sales for the model year to date are running 11 percent
ahead of a year ago. Its share of the U.S.  market for the model year
to date is 15.8 percent, 1.7 points higher than last year.
