09/03/96
Kyodo reported that Mitsubishi Motors began selling two passenger car models with new engines that utilize in-cylinder direct injection technology. The company put the new GDI engines into mass produced cars for the first time, with the release of the new Galant sedan series and the new Legnum station wagon.
The 1800 cc engine reportedly reduces energy consumption by 35%, as compared with conventional injectors. Along with greater efficiency, the engine's power output has been boosted by about 10%, said Mitsubishi.
Mitsubishi said it has also equipped the eighth-generation Galant with a control system that changes the driving power ratio between right and left tires, allowing the vehicle to easily move along a curb.
