Famous "Presidents" Lincoln Limo Settles in at Nixon Library
08/29/96
A specially built $500,000 Lincoln Limousine used to shuttle President Richard Nixon through over 32 countries during his tenure, is being placed in the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, California. The 1967 Limo "sold" to the Nixon administration for $1.00, weighs 11,000 pounds, has 400 pounds of armor plate, and is powered by a 340 horse power Lincoln V8. It can hit 100 MPH and has special steel discs inside the tires which allow them to run even if flattened by gunfire. Nixon got the car in 1968, and it was also used sparingly by Presidents Ford and Carter. Out of commission for 20 years, it was restored by Ford and donated to the library. The vehicle made several trips to the Soviet Union.
