Honda Ups 1996 Fiscal Year Sales and Export Predictions

08/28/96

Nikkei English News reported that Honda Motor Co. upped its sales target for the Japanese auto market by 20,000 vehicles to 750,000. The company also raised its export estimate by 40,000 to 380,000 vehicles. Both predictions refer to the fiscal year ending March, 1997.

Honda ascribed the increases to higher-than-expected sales of station wagons and its CR-V sports-utility vehicle, which it introduced in the fall of 1995. The higher export forecast stems from the automaker's decision to ship a CR-V, developed for the domestic market, to North America.
