Harsco Press Release: Harsco Will Retrofit Approximately 230 Recalled School Buses
08/26/96
Harsco Corporation to Retrofit Approximately 230 School Buses HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 22 -- Harsco Corporation , responding to a release issued yesterday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), said it will retrofit approximately 230 Wayne Lifestar school buses the company manufactured between 1993 and 1995. In June, NHTSA tested two school buses, including one model manufactured by Harsco, and found that 11,500 buses did not meet the federal motor vehicle safety standard for fuel system integrity. Approximately 230 of these were manufactured by Harsco. NHTSA said yesterday that it is not aware of any school bus accidents involving the suspected component. Earlier this summer, Harsco notified all dealers and purchasers of the Harsco buses of the potential problem, and has been working closely with NHTSA to resolve the issue promptly. Harsco expects to complete testing of a redesigned component shortly, and will retrofit the buses at no cost to the customer and only a minor cost to the company.
