Toyota to Keep its Japanese Plants Working Through September Holidays
08/23/96
Kyodo reported that Japanese employees of Toyota Motor Corporation will be expected to show up and work regular hours on two national holidays in Japan. It will be the first time since February 1991 that all the firm's workers have worked through holidays.
The move is an attempt to recoup market share by cashing in on the success of the company's new Ipsum sports-utility vehicle, which was released last spring, and brisk sales of its Land Cruiser. Toyota's Ipsum plant will operate three extra days in September; its Land Cruiser plant will work four extra days during the month.
