Mitsubishi Motors Hopes to Boost Sales Through Mini-Car Dealerships
08/21/96
Nikkei English News says that Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) aims to increase automobile sales from the current rate of 13,000 units a month to 17,000 units a month by the year 2000. MMC plans to affect the sales hike through dealerships that handle handling mainly mini-cars. The new target is part of the carmaker's medium-term plan to boost annual domestic sales to 1 million units by 2000.
Throughout Japan MMC has about 20,000 dealerships that sell a total of 9,300 mini-cars and 3,700 sport-utility vehicles per month, on the average. To achieve its goal, MMC has decided to increase the number of "Galant Shop" outlets with large showrooms by 50%, which will bring them a total of 30,000 by the end of the decade.
