Chrysler Sets 1997 Dodge Dakota Prices AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 16 -- Chrysler Corporation today announced pricing for the all-new 1997 Dodge Dakota compact pickup. The new Dakota lineup reflects a consolidation of models that will offer significantly more standard features than the trucks they replace. Dodge has consolidated its former Work Special, Sport and Base models on its Regular and Club Cab Dakotas into one Base model for each cab configuration. Regular Cab models now include as standard: driver- and passenger-side air bags, four-speaker AM/FM cassette stereo, larger tires, rear solar glass and cargo tie-down hooks. The Club Cab models now include all those features plus a 40/20/40 seat with center armrest storage system, driver's seat lumbar adjustment and premium cloth upholstery. "By simplifying our product line, we now offer Dakota customers an entry-level truck that is significantly richer in content than its predecessor, while staying price competitive with the other trucks in the compact market," said Dodge General Manager Martin R. Levine. "It was imperative, even though we were introducing an all-new vehicle, that we stay with our strategy of offering the most powerful, roomiest and most capable truck in the compact segment at an affordable price," Levine said. "We've done that." Base models of the Regular Cab will be offered in short wheelbase 4x2 and 4x4, and long wheelbase 4x2 configurations. Base Club Cab models include short wheelbase 4x2 and 4x4 editions. 1997 Dodge Dakota base prices: Model MSRP DEST ---------------------------------------- 2-Wheel Drive Regular Cab SWB $12,725 $510 Regular Cab LWB $13,185 $510 Club Cab SWB $16,420 $510 4-Wheel Drive Regular Cab SWB $17,190 $510 Club Cab SWB $19,960 $510
