Ford Press Release: Luxury Sport Utility Vehicle Joins Lincoln Line

08/20/96

Lincoln Navigator Charts New Territory

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., Aug. 16 -- A premium, full-size
sport utility vehicle, the Lincoln Navigator, will join the Lincoln
line of luxury cars next summer.

"The Navigator sets a new course for Lincoln, known over the years for
its high standards of luxury and engineering," Jim O'Connor, the Ford
vice president for Lincoln, said Friday as he unveiled an artist's
sketch of the Navigator.

The sketch was unveiled to reporters and Lincoln club members
attending this weekend's 1996 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

"Our customers have wanted a full-size sport utility with roominess,
power and versatility that still retains the luxury, comfort and
prestige of the Lincoln cars they know," O'Connor said. "With
Navigator, we're delivering Lincoln's amenities and distinctive
styling in a functional package."

The Lincoln Navigator, at 205 inches long, will seat up to eight
passengers comfortably and fit into the average garage. It will be
powered by a single overhead cam 5.4-liter V-8, coupled with an
electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission.

Lincoln Navigator will begin appearing in Lincoln dealer showrooms in
summer 1997.
