South Korean Auto Executive Dies After Stabbing in China

08/20/96

The Associated Press has reported that Park Byong-Hyon, 55, a Kia Motors Company executive, died en route to a Chinese hospital after he was attacked and stabbed with poisoned needles in Yanji, Jilin.

South Korea's Foreign Ministry announced Mr. Park's death, and asked Chinese authorities to investigate the case. Mr. Park headed up Kia's auto-repair training center in Yanji. He was attacked outside his office, on his way to dine with two South Korean visitors, the officials said.

The Foreign Ministry urged Koreans traveling in China to take precautionary measures against crime. The number of South Korean tourists and business men in China has increased rapidly since the two countries normalized relations in 1992.
