Ford Press Release: Lincoln-Mercury Sponsors Maize Maze Benefit for Cancer Research

08/19/96

The Lincoln-Mercury Amazing Maize Maze Offers Cornucopia of Fun for
Good Cause World's Largest Corn Field Puzzle to Raise $1 Million for
Cancer Programs

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 15 -- Harvesting A Cure is helping
solve the puzzle of cancer by building the world's largest corn
maze. In a 247,975-square-foot corn field, the metropolitan
Detroit-based non-profit organization will create The Lincoln-Mercury
Amazing Maize Maze, a three- dimensional labyrinth featuring over
three miles of paths. Amazingly, this feat of farming science will be
constructed for the first time ever in an urban setting.

With the support of title sponsor Lincoln-Mercury Division and the use
of land owned and donated by Ford Motor Land Development Corp., one
hundred percent of the net proceeds from the event, which is expected
to cultivate $1 million, will be directed to charitable institutions
committed to cancer research and patient care programs.

Beginning August 16 and running weekends through late September, the
Amazing Maize Maze will be open to the public Friday, Saturday and
Sunday, from 9 a.m. to dusk. On weekdays, the maze is available to
corporations and organizations for private use, such as team-building
exercises, company picnics, and motivational and morale-boosting
retreats.

The event will feature a crop of family-oriented activities designed
to entertain as well as educate attendees. Sited on 30 acres, the
gigantic puzzle will be embellished with a myriad of theatrical
devices, including symphonic music, two-way communication and lookout
towers. Navigational clues incorporating information on cancer
prevention and interesting facts surrounding the automotive industry's
100-year history will be strategically placed throughout the
complicated paths to guide "corn-fused" participants on their
journey. A petting zoo, a children's maze and a cornucopia of food
complete the "bringing the country to the city" atmosphere of the
event.

The five-and-a-half-acre Maze is located on Mercury Drive at Ford Road
in Dearborn, Michigan. Tickets are $8.50 for adults 12 years old and
up and $5.50 for children between the ages of 5-11. Children under the
age of 5 are admitted free.

According to event organizers, it will take most people approximately
70-90 minutes to complete the Maze. They advise people to come with
comfortable shoes, a sense of humor and a desire for a challenge.

"I can't think of too many families that haven't been personally
touched by cancer, including my own," said Jim O'Connor, general
manager Lincoln- Mercury Division. "We at Lincoln-Mercury believe very
deeply in supporting efforts to help find a cure, particularly ones
such as the Amazing Maize Maze, which will raise research money and
educate people of all ages about cancer prevention."

Edward Wizner, Harvesting A Cure co-founder and co-producer of the
Maze, added: "In this 100th Anniversary year of the automobile, it
gives us a great sense of satisfaction to give back to the community
by generating substantial funds for a very worthwhile cause. Not only
will this unique event provide fun for the whole family, it is certain
to be a real learning experience."

In honor of the automotive industry's 100th anniversary, the Maze
planned by world renowned maze designer Adrian Fisher and Production
Manager Don Frantz will portray an 1896 quadricycle, Henry Ford's
first working car. The team of Fisher and Frantz is responsible for a
three-acre maze in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, constructed last summer
that set the current world's record.

Explaining the inspiration to stage this world class wonder, Molly
A. Moons, co-founder of Harvesting A Cure and co-producer of The
Lincoln-Mercury Amazing Maize Maze stated:

"One in every three Americans will be diagnosed with cancer during his
or her lifetime. This insidious disease not only affects patients, but
their family members and friends as well. Ed and I, along with Tom
Spillane, founded Harvesting A Cure based on the principle that
everyone can participate in the quest to cure cancer."
