Mitsubishi Swimming in Orders for Lancer Evolution IV

Nikkei English News reported that Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has received over 4,000 orders for its new 280hp Lancer Evolution IV sports car, which is scheduled to hit the market on August 23. Mitsubishi launched the Lancer series in 1992; the new Lancer, the fourth of the series, will be the most powerful compact sports car available in Japan's domestic market.

Mitsubishi had planned to produce only 6,000 of the new cars, but unexpected demand may boost that figure. Mitsubishi announced that it expects all the vehicles scheduled for production to be bought by the release date. Until the announcement of the Lancer Evolution IV, Lancer sales were sluggish, despite last October's release of a remodeled version.
