1997 Ford Expedition Is Newest and Lowest-Priced 4-Door Full-Size Sport Utility DETROIT, Aug. 6 -- The suggested retail starting price for the all-new 1997 Ford Expedition is set to redefine the full-size 4-door sport utility market, Ford Motor Company told dealers today. Manufacturer's suggested retail prices for the Expedition, which offers best- in-class towing, payload and highway fuel economy, are as follows (including destination and delivery charges of $640):Ford Expedition XLT 4x2 $27,910 Ford Expedition XLT 4x4 $30,510 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 4x2 $31,880 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 4x4 $34,515Ford Expedition also redefines the full-size sport utility segment in terms of packaging and roominess, ride and handling, performance and affordability. Among standard equipment on all Ford Expedition models offered at these suggested prices are a Triton 4.6 liter V-8 engine mated with an electronic 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, dual air bags, four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, new short/long arm fully independent front suspension, a five-link system with coil springs for the rear suspension, passive anti-theft system and adjustable-height shoulder belts. When equipped with the optional third-row seat, Ford Expedition is the only full-size sport utility vehicle that offers 9-passenger seating and still fits in a standard size garage. Suggested retail prices for the third-row seat and other available options and preferred equipment packages will be announced later. Public introduction day for Ford Expedition is October 2.
