Matsushita Electric Will Manufacture Motors for Electric Vehicles

Kyodo News International has reported that Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. will manufacture motors for electric vehicles. Starting next April 1, the company will begin test producing such motors at a rate of 100 per month.

The motors will generate a maximum of 80 kilowatts of power at 20,000 revolutions per minute: the equivalent of a 1500cc gasoline-powered car engine. Matsushita will supply the motors to several Japanese automakers for use in electric vehicles.
