Nissan Will Design an Electric Minivan for the U.S. Market
08/02/96
Nissan Motor plans to begin selling electric minivans in California in 1998. The minivans will use a lithium battery as a power source, and the design of the vehicles will be based on a car that the company will begin leasing in Japan in Spring, 1997. Vehicles powered by Lithium batteries run 3 times the distance that vehicles powered by more common lead storage batteries go. By the year 2003, 10% of all cars that automakers sell in California must be electric vehicles.
