Nissan Announces Diesel Power Plant for Sports Utility Vehicle

08/01/96

On Tuesday, Nissan Motor Co. announced that it will launch a diesel powered sport utility vehicle in late August. The vehicle will be fitted with a newly developed diesel engine--the QD32ETi--which has an electronic fuel injection system to optimize combustion efficiency.

Nissan says that the vehicle's new 3.2-liter intercooled turbocharged engine will provide a maximum of 150 horsepower, giving it a higher performance rating than any of the domestically available engines with less than 4.0-liters of displacement. The QD32ETi engine also provides quick throttle response, cleaner exhaust emissions and less noise than conventional diesel engines, the company said.

Along side with the QD32ETi, Nissan has been developing a naturally aspirated engine, dubbed the QD32. The company will equip commercial vehicles with the QD32 starting this fall.
