Three Honda Parts Manufacturers Set Up Joint Ventures in the U.K.

NikkeiNet has reported that three after market parts makers affiliated with Honda Motor Co. will set up separate joint ventures in the UK with British parts maker UGC Ltd. Yachiyo Industry Co. will manufacture pressed steel parts and sun-roofs, Yutaka Giken will make exhaust system components and pressed steel parts, and YSK will produce manual transmission parts.
The new facilities will start production in late 1997 and 1998, and the total investment is estimated at 11 billion yen. Honda of the U.K. Manufacturing Ltd. made 91,000 Civic and Accord models in 1995, and the new parts plants will allow the company to boost annual production to 150,000 vehicles by 1998, a year earlier than scheduled.
