1997 Buick Century Sports Engineering Innovations

06/24/96

The 1997 Buick Century, slated to enter dealer showrooms as Buick's "reasonably priced" car during the first quarter of 1997, contains no major styling changes, but has been updated engineering-wise. The nameplate (which dates back to 1936 when the model was Buick's hot rod answer to the V8 Fords and Chevies) is larger for 1997 than its 1995 counterparts. The '97 models have:

	  More room and luggage space.
	  Dual air bags.
	  Independent rear suspension.
Speed dependent power assist system to aid steering when parking.
	  Anti-lock brakes.
	  Side impact steel braces.
"Starter protection" device..the starter won't grind if turned on while the motor is running.
	  4.1 inch longer wheelbase.
Power locks that will not go on if you leave keys in the car.
"Theatre style" rear seating so the folks in back can see ahead
Optional built in child safety seat
	  Dual comfortemp heater controls.
	  20 mpg city
	  29 mpg highway
