Israeli Ministers to Ride in Armored Caddies

06/10/96

Reuters reported that the outgoing Israeli government has purchased eight armor-plated Cadillacs at the behest of the Shin Bet secret service. Current ministers won't get to ride in them, but the cabinet of Prime Minister elect Ben Netanyahu will. Netanyahu hopes to have his new government assembled by June 17.

Both out-going Prime Minister Shimon Peres and Ben Netanyahu already ride in armor plated caddies, but the ministers of the cabinet have been using volvos. Israel's State-run Radio reported that the new caddies will cost $170,000 apiece, three times as much as the volvos.
