Minivans Boost Chrysler Sales, Cavalier, Tahoe Up GMC Deliveries
06/07/96
Chrysler and GM enjoyed near-record retail sales for the month of May. Chryslers sales jumped 17% over a year ago and GM's rose 7.2% over last year. Chrysler attributed their gain to the hot-selling four-door minivans, and light truck sales were up 16%. GM said the Chevrolet Cavalier and the Tahoe Sport Utility helped their sales increase. The industry sales were running at a 15 million car year rate which would put sales over last year's 14.7 million units. Nissan on the other hand reported a sales decline for May of 16%.
