Press Release: Chrysler Dedicates New World Headquarters
06/06/96
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., PRNewswire -- On the eve of its 71st birthday, ten years after the groundbreaking of what has become the automotive industry's only complete product development facility, Chrysler Corporation today dedicated its new World Headquarters in Auburn Hills. In simultaneous ceremonies, the Company also celebrated the opening of its new European Headquarters in Brussels and its Japanese Headquarters in Tokyo. "Today we're celebrating Chrysler getting 'back to the future,' which is an accurate description of Chrysler's inter- national story," said Eaton. "Chrysler's international sales for the first five months are up 21 percent. If that's not enough, today's dedication confirms our commitment to global growth. In 1991, Chrysler distributed its products in just 22 countries outside of North America -- today, we operate in approximately 100." The $1.1 billion Auburn Hills Complex is the largest facilities investment in Chrysler Corporation's history. The Complex houses more than 10,000 employees and is the site of the World Headquarters and the Chrysler Technology Center, a research, development, design and testing facility unparalleled by others in the automotive industry. Chrysler Europe's 75,000-square-foot headquarters in Brussels will house 170 employees by 1997 in two four-story buildings connected by a Pentastar-topped glass atrium. Brussels was chosen because of the city's excellent infrastructure for multi- national companies and its geographically central location for Chrysler distributors and customers throughout Europe. The Chrysler Japan headquarters office complex opened earlier this year and houses 350 employees in the Aoyama District of Tokyo. Asia is the world's most promising growth market. Sales of Chrysler vehicles in Japan began in 1989. "The focal point of today's ceremony is the new World Headquarters and Technology Center," Eaton said. "No other company in the auto industry, anywhere else in the world, has anything that even comes close to this place. THIS is our advantage ... our future ... a 4.9 million square foot facility housing under one roof all the people and resources needed to design, test, build, evaluate and market world class vehicles."
