Press Release: Chrysler Market Share Hits Record Level

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., PRNewswire -- Chrysler Corporation achieved
its fourth monthly U.S. industry market share record in five
months with a 16.1 percent share in May, on record sales of
245,289 cars and trucks.  The old May record was 15.2 percent,
set in 1993.
For the first five months of 1996, Chrysler's market share is at
16.2 percent, also a record pace, and 1.7 points higher than
last year.
Separately, Chrysler truck sales also resulted in a record 24
percent, replacing a May record of 22.8 percent set in 1992.
Dodge Division set its fifth consecutive market share record in
May with 8.7 percent of the market -- 1.2 points higher than May
1995.  For the calendar year, Dodge has a record 8.8 percent
share, versus 7.5 percent last year.
