Press Release: Mercedes-Benz of North America Announces New Vice President of Finance

MONTVALE -- Mercedes-Benz of North America, Inc. today 
announced the appointment of Wilfried Steffen to the position
of vice president, finance and controlling at its corporate 
headquarters in Montvale, N.J.  He succeeds Wolfgang Hartung
who is assuming new responsibilities with U.S.-based Daimler-
Benz AG subsidiaries on special financial projects.

Prior to joining MBNA in 1993 in the capacity of general 
manager, corporate planning and controlling, Steffen spent 
nine years at the MBAG passenger car manufacturing facility 
in Bremen, Germany, where he held various managerial positions,
including manager, controlling.  He will assume his new 
duties on June 1, 1996, reporting to Michael Bassermann, 
president and CEO, Mercedes-Benz of North America, Inc.

Steffen holds a B.A. in finance and M.B.A. in accounting and
finance from Albertus-Magnus University in Cologne, Germany.
He resides in Scarsdale, New York.
