Honda Debuts New Civic With Trick Transmission

05/29/96

American Honda Motor Company may not be coming out with any radically styled cars, but their engineering department is working overtime as they are introducing a 1996 Civic HX Coupe, equipped with a continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that has no gears. Shades of 1950 Buick Dynaflows ! The gear box works off a unique drive belt connected to two variable ratio pulleys which expand and contract depending on load and engine speed. Got that?

This Civic coup is powered by a four cylinder motor and has a price tag of $14,300 plus offers interesting 35MPG city and highway fuel economy.
