Toyota Delays '97 Models

05/13/96

Toyota Motor Corporation has announced that it will delay U.S. production of its 1997 Camry sedan until August, in order to capitalize on the strong sales of current models. The delay allows Toyota to meet dealer orders for the 1996 Camry by providing an extra month for the model's production. 23,000 additional 1996 models will be made.

So far this year, U.S. Camry sales have risen 16 percent. At 108,898 units, the car is the third biggest seller in the nation, trailing Honda's Accord (124,927), and Ford's Taurus (123,837).
