Ford Announces Ambitious Advertising Campaigns for 2 New Vehicles
05/08/96
This month Ford's Lincoln Mercury division will debut 2 new vehicles: The Mountaineer, Mercury's first sport utility vehicle; and the Tracer, "the small vehicle that thinks big." Both vehicles will be introduced from the top of the Parthenon in Greece, later this month, and Ford has announced spectacular advertising campaigns for both.
The Mountaineer campaign will include TV spots by Digital Domain, the outfit responsible for the special effects in the movies "Terminator 2" and "Apollo 13."
The first ads for the 1997 Tracer will air on the radio and promise to be imaginative in the extreme. The campaign will mark the first time a car has been introduced using radio as a primary medium. Ford says the use of the radio medium--which has long been referred to as "the theater of the mind"--will emphasize the primary theme of the advertising campaign: imagination.
