Harley Posts Record Profits
04/18/96
Milwaukee based Harley Davidson has reported record sales and profits for the first quarter of 1996, as well as strong demand for their heavyweight motorcycles. The motorcycle maker reported that its profits rose 40 percent (44 cents per share) during the first quarter as compared to the first quarter of last year. Sales rose 26% from $295 million in the first quarter of 1995 to $371 million in 1996.
Harley's strong profits come after the sale of their RV unit and a reorganization to focus on meeting a demand for their motorcycles that exceeds their production capabilities. The company is still looking for a buyer for their other non-motorcycle related divisions.
