AUSTIN HEALEY, THE AFFORDABLE TRUE SPORTS CAR: A CHRONOLOGY
Introduced at the 1952 Earls Court London Auto Show by Donald M. Healey, auto engineer and ex-RAF pilot the Austin Healy 100 (100 miles per hour guaranteed) became instant success as this sleek little two seater had a sticker price of 750 pounds. It was powered by a 90 hp Austin tractor motor, had an overdrive to give it six forward gears and with classic British wire wheels and a lay down windscreen Americans flocked to Austin Healey stores to place orders when it "came over here" in 1953. Healey, later to become Sir Donald, OBE of course was the absolute catalyst behind the design and production of the popular roadster and here is how it all began.1946 Healey Westland roadster.2.5 Riley motor.four seats 1948 Healey Elliott Saloon.
