Volvo: Firings and Layoffs Affect 2000 Workers

The Associated Press reported that Swedish automaker Volvo plans to layoff 1200 Swedish workers, 300 workers in Belgium and Canada, and 760 people employed in marketing and administration. Volvo's pretax profit dropped from $2.37 billion in 1994 to $1.88 billion in 1995--that's about 21%.
