Larry's Automotive News Nuggets September 7, 2025- August car sales. New-vehicle sales rose 3.7% in August from a year earlier, helped by consumers’ rush to lock in expiring EV tax credits and steady prices in the face of tariffs. the seasonally adjusted annual selling rate for August of 16.1 million vehicles. Ford Motor Co., Honda America, Hyundai Group, Subaru and Toyota NA all posted strong August sales, with Hyundai and Kia hitting record. Full report HERE
- EV high insurance cost. The insurance premiums on electric vehicles are, on average, a whopping 49% higher than those for gas-powered cars, according to new data from the digital insurance platform Insurify. It costs an average of $4,058 annually to insure an electric vehicle, compared with $2,732 for a traditional vehicle, according to the data. Electric cars cost more to replace, are more expensive to repair, and are more likely to have issues that lead to insurance claims, the report said. Full story HERE

- Big sale of classics in Chicago. More than a decade ago, the Klairmont Kollections Automotive Museum on Chicago’s Northwest Side reached its peak after years of furious acquisition by its founder, real estate magnate Larry Klairmont, at more than 600 vehicles. That ranked it among the four or five largest car collections in the United States at the time. Klairmont, the founder of Chicago’s Imperial Realty, died four years ago at the age of 94. He had been downsizing his auto holdings by then, but now the last of his collection, some 300 cars and 1,000 pieces of auto-related art remaining at his 88,000-square foot museum in Chicago's Belmont Cragin neighborhood, is due to be auctioned Sept. 19 to Sept. 21 on site at the museum by Mecum Auctions.
- EV with a loud muffler!? A Dodge Charger EV driver got a ticket for a loud exhaust. The driver was cited for a public nuisance due to his electric muscle car's "super loud" muffler, in the words of the cop who pulled him over. Read the story on The Drive. HERE
- Ford recall. Ford Motor Co. is recalling 105,441 Ford Mustangs from model year 2024 in the U.S. because of improperly sealed body seams that may allow water to enter control modules and interfere with exterior lighting, NHTSA said.
- New Cadillac F1 test driver. The Cadillac Formula 1 Team announced that nine-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES race winner Colton Herta will serve as a Test Driver as the team prepares to join the F1 grid for the 2026 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season. Colton is the latest addition to our crew of drivers, joining Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez, as announced last week. HERE
