THE HENRY FORD PARTNERS WITH UTOPIA FILMS FOR EXCLUSIVE SCREENING OF '80S CLASSIC FILM, RAD WEDNESDAY, JULY 16
SPECIAL PANEL DISCUSSION WITH UTOPIA CO-FOUNDER ROBERT SCHWARTZMAN TO FOLLOW THE FILM
DEARBORN, Mich., July 10, 2025 -- BMX fans, film buffs, and '80s lovers alike are invited to an electrifying evening on Wednesday, July 16, when the cult-classic film, Rad (1986) races into the Giant Screen Experience at The Henry Ford. Presented in partnership with Utopia Films, this special screening brings to life the ultimate underdog story.
The film follows Cru Jones, a small-town teen with big dreams, as he takes on corporate-backed pros in the legendary Helltrack BMX competition. From underdog to BMX hero, Cru defies expectations with every race. He shows us that it's not just about winning, it's about following his dreams. The 90-minute, PG–rated film will be shown with closed captions.
After the screening, guests are invited to stay for an exclusive, live discussion with Utopia co-founder Robert Schwartzman and The Henry Ford's Curator of Transportation Matt Anderson. Together, they will host a conversation on the legacy of the film, its impact on cinema and its place in BMX culture.
Ticket prices for Rad, the Giant Screen Experience are $12.75 for members and $15 for the general public. Prices include both screenings and the live discussion. Doors open at 5pm. Also included before the screening of Rad, guests will enjoy a newly restored digital screening of "Enigma," the 16mm short by Lillian Schwartz, considered an apt visual prelude to Rad.
