Greetings all from sunny Budapest.
Even though I am only half way through my trip I thought a letter might be in order.

The scoop which I had to share with you is that I have been in a BYD! In case you’ve never heard of it this is the Chinese car designed to destroy the European auto industry.
An EV, selling well below VW and Toyota prices is actually good.

Not only is it good but the Hungarian government in its wisdom decided to give the company a huge grant to build a mega factory near Szeged, near the Serbian border. It is the ultimate Trojan horse.
How the European automakers will survive I have no idea. Yes, of course Mercedes and BMW are safe from the onslaught but for people where every penny counts this is a serious proposition.
It is quiet, comfortable and full of nice little touches. I can understand the US Government for trying to stop it from getting into their country, it will play havoc with Detroit.
