What the frunk?

Very recently, the auto writers' group I belong to, Western Automotive Journalists, had the honor of getting a preview of Lucid's new SUV/crossover, Gravity.

If you're familiar at all with Lucid you know they build one of the most beautiful cars, the Air, regardless of power type. Lucid's corporate credo is "Compromise Nothing."

I took a few pictures of the Gravity to give you an idea of its beauty, its thoughtfulness, its innovation, and its completeness.

One of the things I learned when I worked for a Japanese auto maker was "sweat the small things." Lucid has done this. The Gravity follows the common layout for a SUV - it is a box on wheels. What sets it apart in my opinion, other than the gorgeous, sexy shape, is the attention to detail. A perfect example is the "frunk" (front trunk) where WAJ member Heather Durham is sitting. The frunk is for storage but with a few minor changes can be a perfect place sit with your drink of choice (there are two drink holders) and watch the sun set into the Pacific (one of my favorite things to do).

Lucid Senior Vice President of Design and Brand Derek Jenkins gave us a presentation of the Lucid Gravity, and the thoughts behind its design. It was all very Zen, and Derek made it all come together in my mind. A car is a car but it can be more, it can be a refuge from a crazy world.

The Gravity we saw is a pre-production car so I'm not going to quote facts and figures. The Lucid Air's specs should give you a good idea of Lucid's goals for the Gravity.

I am still not 100% sold on EVs, at least not at this time. The Lucid team seems to take the "Compromise Nothing" theme seriously. Think about those two words, then test drive a Lucid.
