China EV News and the Thread to the American Auto Industry =?UTF-8?B?4oCT?= Chinese automakers taking advantage of a trade loophole; operating from Mexico =?UTF-8?B?4oCT?= EV and supply chain scientists for comment

The Associated Press this morning (https://apnews.com/article/china-vehicles-mexico-evs-automakers-tariffs-f526c5e52b95b624bb4b15d2038e289a?utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&utm_medium=AP&utm_source=Twitter) characterized it as “a scenario that terrifies America’s auto industry.??

What is it? Chinese automakers are operating out of Mexico in order to “exploit North American trade rules.?? The story says that the end game is to ship cheap electric vehicles into the U.S. at huge numbers. According to the report, American-made EVs cost on average $55,000. But Chinese-made EVs would cut that in half.

The end result would be bankrupt American automakers, closed plants and lost jobs, along with an increased economic dependence on China.

So, what impact will this have on the automative supply chain? And, how soon?

If this is a story you are following, I may have the right EV and supply chain scientist to talk about what needs to happen. My clients are members of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (https://informs.org/) (INFORMS).

Depending on the nature of your story, I may have a good resource for you. If not, I will let you know quickly.

Just let me know of your needs. Thanks.
