Honda Recalls 114,00 Vehicles Including Fit Hatchback and HR-V's

PHOTO

Honda recently issued a recall for over 114,000 Fit hatchbacks and HR-V SUVs due to a problem with the backup camera [1]. The issue prevents the camera from displaying images on the display screen, making it difficult for drivers to check their surroundings when backing up. Honda has urged customers to bring their vehicles to a dealership to have the camera checked and potentially serviced or replaced.

Defect / Noncompliance Description

*Describe the defect or noncompliance:
The power circuit in the display audio unit was improperly designed. When the engine is started with an ignition key, the cranking can cause the battery’s state of charge to drop, which may prevent the display audio from booting up, resulting in the failure to display the rearview camera image.

*Describe the safety risk:
If the display audio unit does not boot up, the rearview camera image will not display, which may affect the driver’s view and increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Describe the cause:
The power circuit in the display audio unit was improperly designed.

Identify the Remedy

Describe the defect / noncompliance remedy program, including the manufacturer’s plan for reimbursement:
Registered owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer. The dealer will reprogram the display audio unit with updated software containing the proper boot up procedure.

Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense will be eligible for reimbursement, in accord with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.

Identify the Recall Schedule
