Long Live the Manual Transmission

When, as a teenager, I first learned to drive in the hills of the San Francisco Bay Area using a manual transmission, the experience was challenging for both me and the clutch. The successful end result was not only a sense of "engagement" with the car but also a two legged muscle-memorization aerobic that stuck with me. Later on, spending more and more time in stop-and-go commuter and city traffic, one legged driving was too logical to ignore. Becoming an automotive journalist and test driving high performance vehicles on Northern California race tracks and early morning country roads revived that delicious control, and still does to this day.

The 3 Liter Twin-Scroll Turbo In-line 6 generates 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of toque and sends it to the rear wheels launching this aerodynamic little missile. Add to that Adaptive Variable Sport suspension and Brembo 4-piston brakes up front and you are ready to straighten out your favorite empty stretch of country road.

The interior reminded me of the early days of NASA - you slide into a capsule - designed for driving not lounging.
