LONDON - December 1, 2022: The Honda Civic has been crowned Scottish Car of the Year 2022 by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers

The new hybrid-only hatchback - which won the Best Family Car category before going on to win the overall title - wowed the judges with its combination of practicality, technology and driving dynamics.

It was an excellent year for Kia as well. The company’s new Sportage was a double winner, lifting the Best Family SUV and Best Full Hybrid trophies.

The Korean company went on to win a third award as the all-electric EV6 took home the Electric Vehicle over £40,000 title.

Skoda’s Fabia was Scottish Small Car of the Year. Newcomer Genesis won the Large SUV of the Year category with its excellent GV70. The all-new Range Rover was the runaway winner of the Luxury SUV title.

Best Electric Vehicle Under £40,000 went to MG’s great value MG4. Meanwhile the Plug-In-Hybrid winner was Mazda’s CX-60.

In the Utility/4x4 category it was the capable SsangYong Musso which triumphed.

Finally, the Scottish Used Car of the Year was the BMW 5 Series: a luxury saloon with a breadth of talent that makes it just as desirable used as it is new.

Commenting on winning the Scottish Car of the Year award, Rebecca Adamson, Head of Automobile at Honda HME-UK, commented: “To finish 2022 with two more award wins for the Civic e:HEV is such a great achievement, especially when the awards are as prestigious as the renowned Scottish Car of the Year Awards.

“We are thrilled to have been awarded the overall Scottish car of the Year for the Civic e:HEV, it’s a fantastic badge of honour, especially when we are celebrating the Civic’s 50th anniversary this year.

“I very much look forward to seeing the success of the Civic continue, and a big thank you to the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers.”

Association of Scottish Motoring Writers President Jack McKeown added: “The latest Honda Civic impressed every one of our members with its smart new appearance, great practicality and excellent hybrid engine.

“Good fuel economy is more important than ever and we found the Civic to be extremely efficient. Add in Honda’s superb reliability and you have a car that is a more than worthy winner of the Scottish Car of the Year title.”
