But First: Co-Publishers Note: During an amazing 2006 visit by The Auto Channel co-founders Marc Rauch and Bob Gordon to the Loker Hydrocarbon Research Institute at the University of Southern California (USC) to interview the Noble Prize winning George Olah whose research in the chemistry of hydrocarbons has led to high-octane fuels and more easily degradable hydrocarbons. He argues that storing energy in the form of methanol, not hydrogen, could end our dependence on fossil fuels and transform carbon dioxide from a global-warming liability into an essential raw material for a methanol-based economy.and his team of Drs. Goeppert and Prakash, all renowned carbon scientists and together the authors of Beyond Oil and Gas; The Methanol Economy".

During our meeting they demonstrated to us just how Methanol can easily become the world's zero emissions mobility fuel and as a game-changer how clean Methanol can be made from dirty coal.

As a follow up to our California meeting I visited with Kentucky's Coal Czar to offer him what The Auto Channel saw as a slam dunk (still do) to revive the Coal industry, eliminate poison gasoline and keep mother nature happy...what a concept for cash starved coal Kentucky and thousands of coal miners who looked to Frankfort for a viable healthy future.ut I guess I was speaking unintelligible Brooklynese to a Kentuckian because our meeting went nowhere and I was sent on my way. Now here it is 2021 15 years later and the Chinese (of course) are working to clean their air and profit from their Methanol investments...its amazing to me just how blind American Bureaucrats are to recognize a change that will be good for Kentucky, Good For America and Good For The World ...oh well.

2022 Mar 28th, Aalborg, Denmark. In support of the Danish initiative to promote the production and development of green e-methanol, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely Holding) announced that it has joined hands with Circle K Denmark, Aalborg University, and Fonden Green Hub Denmark to collaborate on a 15-month test and demonstration trial for green e-methanol fuel and methanol vehicles in Denmark. Danish Minister for Transport Trine Bramsen, Aalborg municipal government representatives, and European media were invited to witness the first test runs of Geely methanol vehicles on Danish roads and visit the e-methanol production facility at Aalborg University.

Geely Holding has provided two Geely Auto Emgrand methanol sedans and the world’s first M100 heavy truck to Danish partners as part of the long-term trial. The demonstration trial will support the promotion of green e-methanol and green mobility in Europe as well as preparations for the safe introduction of e-methanol fuel in the EU.

The Danish Connection

Denmark has been a global leader in sustainability, and has pledged to reduce its carbon emissions by 70% by 2030. While the country is one of the world’s largest producers of wind and solar renewable energy, it faces the issue of renewable energy being weather dependent and prone to fluctuation. Through Power to X (PTX), the conversion of renewable energy to other usable forms, green e-methanol is an optimal solution for Denmark to store excess renewable power, stabilize its national power grid, and produce a sustainable carbon neutral renewable fuel.

The uses of green methanol for commercial shipping have already been pioneered by Danish shipping giant Maersk. Supporting green e-methanol to be used as marine fuel, Denmark has established a strong infrastructure foundation for the production, storage, and transport of methanol fuel. For testing and demonstration of methanol vehicles, Denmark is the best choice in the EU.

The Geely Connection

Geely Holding is the largest developer and producer of methanol vehicles in the world. Its Geely Emgrand methanol sedan and Farizon M100 heavy truck have already been tested and passed the stringent “China VI” emissions standards. From well to wheel, Geely’s methanol vehicles allows for a 70% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to gasoline models.

Previous demonstration trials of Geely Emgrand methanol sedans in Iceland achieved an average well to wheel emissions of 46g of CO2 per km, even lower than electric vehicles in most countries. In the future, Geely Holding methanol vehicles will undergo EU certification and promotion to other European markets in support of accelerating the goal of reaching carbon neutrality.

Geely Holding has been developing methanol vehicles and green methanol technologies for over 17 years. The company has launched more than 20 methanol vehicles and obtained more than 256 patents for methanol technologies. In 2016, Geely Holding invested in Carbon Recycling International (CRI) which utilizes renewable energy and carbon capture to synthesize green e-methanol on an industrial scale. Geely Holding has helped CRI introduce its technology to the Chinese market, further lowering the cost of green e-methanol and accelerating the global goal of achieving carbon neutrality.

In the race to reach carbon neutrality, methanol and electric vehicles are two powerful tools in the toolshed. Both have their own advantages and together complement each other. Green methanol is available now, methanol infrastructure can be built quickly at a minimal cost, and using green e-methanol can immediately reduce carbon emissions. Fighting climate change is a responsibility for all and Geely Holding supports green e-methanol as much as it does pure electric mobility.
