Washington, DC December 21, 2021; The EPA finalized the new rule to cut pollution from new cars and light-duty trucks, a measure which will cut millions of tons of carbon dioxide and other pollutants from the atmosphere."

The standards from model years 2023-2026, signed yesterday by EPA Administrator Michael Regan, require that cars, SUVs, require that cars, SUVs and pickup trucks release an average of 161 grams of carbon dioxide per mile by 2026. This is equivalent to an average of 55 miles per gallon by 2026."

In response, Rev. Susan Hendershot, President of Interfaith Power & Light, released this statement:

"Interfaith Power & Light celebrates these new Clean Car standards released by the EPA, which are the most significant step the U.S. has ever taken to curb climate pollution. We have a moral obligation to act on climate and to demonstrate compassion and harm reduction in policymaking. Putting the health of children and frontline and fenceline communities first sends an important signal to auto manufacturers that they must step up and innovate to meet these new standards. We look forward to continuing to work with the Biden Administration on the next set of standards for beyond 2026."
