2022 Toyota Sienna XSE Hybrid - Review by Mark Fulmer +VIDEO
The Popular Sienna with Hybrid Power on all Trims
THE AUTO CHANNEL
The 2022 Sienna minivan is available in eight trim modes, all powered by advanced hybrid systems and either front wheel drive or all wheel drive. The XSE includes navigation, 18-20 inch wheels, and an in-car intercom system to referee backseat squabbles as well as to get the attention of ear-budded family members.
Power is supplied by the time tested Hybrid Synergy Drive with its 2.5L Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine, two electric motors, and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT)results in 245 horsepower along with upper 30's gas milage. This hybrid system with its immediate torque from the electric motors, can zip you off the line and eagerly get you around town. Freeway driving is quite relaxed and stable, and the lack of head-snapping acceleration at freeway speeds is both not what eight passenger minivans are about.
Outside and in, this Sienna has a clean modern interior. Storage compartments abound ready to contain all that family stuff and there are 18, yes, 18 cup holders. The front seats are comfy and nicely sculpted and can handle both the big and tall.
Headroom - Front 40.1 in. - Middle 39.3 in. - Rear 37.4 in.
Legroom - Front 40.3 in. - Middle 39.9 in. - Rear 38.7 in.
Shoulder Room - Front 62.4 in. - Middle 62.7 in. - Rear 58.5 in.
Hip Room - Front 59.6 in. - Middle 66.2 in. - Rear 48.8 in
The second row is downright cavernous, even for adults, and it can be outfitted with comfy leg rests. The third row is fairly easy to access, and it's roomy enough for adults to sit in reasonable comfort, though kids will find these seats far more accommodating. Baby carriers attach easily and the Sienna has four to five complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear seats.
There is a roomy 33.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind its third-row seats. These seats can fold flat into the floor and enable 75.2 cubic feet of space behind the second row. The overall cargo space is 101 cubic feet.
Standard infotainment features includea 9-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, a 9-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, seven USB ports, Bluetooth, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Also available infotainment features: navigation, HD Radio, eight- and 12-speaker stereos, wireless device charging.
And a rear-seat entertainment system with an 11.6-inch display (a big hit with the young ones) as well as quad-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, and two 120-volt household-style power outlets.
