Mercedes-Benz wins car connectivity benchmark test executed by ADAC, connect and umlaut, closely followed by BMW

2021/07/09 - Compared to the first edition of our connectivity comparison test in 2020, the participating manufacturers have improved considerably.

Mercedes-Benz performed best overall with a grade of good and a score of 846 out of 1,000 points. The CLA was ultimately able to pull ahead of it’s competition due to its top rating for user experience and the fact that it does not show any weaknesses in any of the examined categories – even though it is one of the less expensive vehicles in the test field. BMW is second ranked with an overall grade of good and a score of 803 points. Volkswagen Arteon 1.4 eHybrid ranks third with an overall grade of satisfactory and a score of 709. The fourth place is held by Kia Sorento 1.6 T-GDI Plug-in-Hybrid Plat, who achieves a score of 690 and an overall grade of satisfactory. The Jaguar E-Pace P300e R-Dynamic S AWD 684 ranked fifth and had an overall grade of satisfactory. Skoda Octavia Combi 1.4 TSI iV came in sixth place with an overall grade of satisfactory and a total score of 657. Finally, Peugeot 508 1.6 HYBRID 225 e-EAT8 achieves a score of 623 and an overall grade of sufficient.

'It is pleasing to see that there are visible improvements compared to last year regarding the user experience - with Mercedes and BMW at the top. All manufacturers have improved compared to 2020 even though we have raised the overall standard and expanded the test to include functions in the areas of connectivity, navigation and infotainment,' explains Hakan Ekmen, Managing Director at umlaut.

umlaut test matrix is now even more practically oriented and takes aspects of e-mobility into account. Connectivity-relevant features and user experience each determine half of the overall ranking. Car connectivity and the user experience linked to it have become an increasingly important sales argument, and vehicles get smarter every year. That is why ADAC, connect and umlaut will continue to investigate the developments in car connectivity.
