Complete Details Of The 2021 Nissan Murano IIHS Safety Award

The The 2021 Nissan Murano, a midsize SUV, qualifies for a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, thanks to new ratings for headlights and pedestrian crash avoidance.

The 2021 Murano’s standard front crash prevention system earns superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.

In the latter test, the SUV successfully avoided collisions at 12 mph in the trials designed to simulate a child and an adult crossing the road. At 25 mph, it avoided hitting the adult dummy and avoided the child in four out of five test runs, slowing substantially in the fifth. The child scenario is more difficult and simulates a child emerging from behind two parked cars.

The Murano also avoided hitting the dummy in the evaluation designed to simulate an adult walking along the edge of the travel lane, which is conducted at 25 and 37 mph.

The vehicle’s standard LED reflector headlights earn a good rating.

To qualify as a Top Safety Pick+, a vehicle must have good ratings in all six IIHS crashworthiness tests — driver- and passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. It must also be available with a front crash prevention system that earns advanced or superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations and come with good or acceptable headlights across all trim levels and packages.
