The all-new 2020 Sonata has modernized its look, added timely tech, and the result is an evolutionary step forward for Hyundai's family sedan. It is somewhat longer, wider, and lower. It's grill is aggresively wider and the overall look is sleek and modern.

The Limited model is powered by a 1.6-liter GDI turbo, 10.5:1 compression, with 180 hp and 195 pound-feet of torque, but virtually all the torque . Hyundai also created a continuously variable valve duration (CVVD), an engineering design that regulates how long the valves remain open before closing. That can improve mpg and performance. I got an overall mpg of 31 during a week of mixed in-town and freeway driving. As a fan of engine torque, the turbocharger provided pleasent punch when needed, and the very well tuned strut front and multilink rear suspension made for a comfortable, fun driving experience.

Loads of tech. The self parking and unparking system allows the Sonata, can back into a parking space by itself using a button on the key fob, and conversely the system can back the car out of a parking space after being remotely started. The Limited has head-up display, parking collision avoidance assistance,front/rear parking sensors, surround monitors (around-view surround cameras), the Blind Spot View Monitor, and Remote Smart Parking Assist. The standard tech includes adaptive cruise control with stop and go, forward collision avoidance, , lane-follow assist, driver-attention warning, and automatic high beams, automatic lane centering, parking collision avoidance assist, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance.
