Honda has taken the decades old original Passport (see specs) off the shelf and redesigned it into a rugged yet stylish older brother for the Pilot - a bit taller, a bit shorter, and instead of a third row seat it has fro second seat legroom and cargo space.

Rugged because it suspension has been tweaked to handle rougher terrain and elements. It also sits higher off the ground. It comes equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 (280 horsepower, 262 pound-feet of torque) and a 9-speed automatic transmission. Like the Pilot, it has an Intelligent Variable Torque Management (iVTM-4) all-wheel-drive system; Intelligent Traction Management drive modes of Normal, Snow, Sand, and Mud; a Sensing driver assistance suite; acoustic glass windshield side windows.

Honda always seems to include useful elements. Like a wireless phone charger located in the center console just below the center stack of dashboard controls. How about On Demand Idle-Stop - pull up to a stop light and a digital message appears on the center console instructing to press the brake harder to activate the function. I like that. Give me choices, always. Then when your foot touches the accelerator, instant engine on. Got a few different drivers using the car? How about a key fob that remembers climate control, radio settings, AND the driver’s seat settings.

Gas mileage for the AWD trim is 19 city, 24 highway, and 21 combined. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard with an 8-inch touchscreen high def display that’s pretty easy to use. SiriusXM radio and Passport’s mobile hotspot are both enjoyable and quite useful.

The Passport earned a five star safety rating, and it shows. Honda Sensing is standard and includes Road Departure Mitigation and Lane Keeping Assist System.

For rural areas, cities and towns with harsh weather, and families with grown kids and equipment sports and hobbies, the Honda Passport is a required test drive in your search for a strong, stylish, and safe family vehicle.
