Tokyo September 28, 2018; Kyodo News reported that Subaru Corp. said Friday it reported to the government fresh cases of improper final vehicle inspections, after earlier admitting to fabricating emissions and fuel efficiency data.

Subaru said in a report on an in-house investigation that its inspectors failed to take proper steps in checking brakes and speed meters. The number of affected vehicles is difficult to know as the conduct came to light based on hearings with employees, it said.

The automaker presented the report to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism earlier in the day. The report said the series of data falsifications had been caused by "low sensitivity" toward inspections on the part of employees and "insufficient supervision" by management.
