WASHINGTON, DC (June 22, 2018) – The 2018 Mazda CX-9 midsize, three-row crossover SUV earned a five-star overall rating in the U.S. government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) following the completion of rigorous collision and pre-collision testing.

All 2018 CX-9 models feature standard Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) for the first time, a technology that can automatically apply the brakes in certain situations below 19 mph. SCBS is a technology that comes as part of Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE suite of safety systems. Additionally, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert are also newly standard for 2018.

NHTSA’s five-star safety ratings help consumers make smart decisions about safety when purchasing a vehicle. The safety evaluations demonstrate how vehicles perform in crash tests, including frontal, side and rollover tests.

Mazda engineers its vehicles around what it calls its Proactive Safety Philosophy, based around empowering the driver with a nimble, stable, intuitive vehicle with the goal of avoiding accidents in the first place. From there, i-ACTIVSENSE safety systems provide assistance, such as Smart City Brake Support and Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, which are now standard on all CX-9 models. Finally, Mazda’s SKYACTIV-BODY, comprised of a ring structure and straight frame rails to help absorb impact, are designed to provide passive safety.

The 2018 Mazda CX-9’s i-ACTIVSENSE suite of safety features include: High Beam Control, Hill Launch Assist, Lane-Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with new Stop and Go function, Smart City Brake Support, Smart Brake Support, Distance Recognition Support System and Forward Obstruction Warning, Adaptive Front-lighting System, High Beam Control, and Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

The entry CX-9 Sport carries a starting MSRP[1]from $32,130.
