COLORADO ADOPTS CLEAN VEHICLE STANDARDS, JOINS 1/3RD OF NATION'S AUTO MARKET CALLING FOR CLEAN CARS
Exciting news! Colorado has just announced they will join more than one-third of the nation's auto market in adopting clean vehicle standards that set limits on tailpipe pollution.
With this move, announced via an Executive Order from Gov. John Hickenlooper, Colorado joins 13 other states and D.C. in calling for clean, efficient vehicles that save consumers money while limiting air pollution.Â
The announcement comes in the face of an imminent joint rule-making from EPA/NHTSA that is expected to propose a dramatic roll-back of the federal tailpipe emissions and fuel-economy standards. It's also expected that the administration will launch an unprecedented attack on the very authority that Colorado is exercising to adopt stronger state standards, essentially gutting Section 177 of the Clean Air Act and reversing decades of national clean air policy.Â
I have health, legal and consumer experts and local electeds available for interviews to discuss the importance of this move, and the impending efforts by the Trump administration to limit state freedom on clean vehicles.Â
Please let me know if you'd like to set something up.Â
Cheers!Â

Gov. Hickenlooper signs executive order calling for state to adopt low emissions vehicle standards
DENVER — Tuesday, June 19, 2018 — Gov. John Hickenlooper signed an executive order that commits Colorado to adopting low emission vehicle (LEV) standards.
Colorado has unmatched natural beauty, but our typography makes us especially vulnerable to greater impacts of pollution. The LEV action helps the state meet its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 26 percent by 2025. We can achieve this goal by harnessing technological advancements in the clean energy field and implementing cost-effective strategies that reduce our emissions while protecting our vibrant economy.
“Colorado has a choice. This executive order calls for the state to adopt air quality standards that will protect our quality of life in Colorado,?? said Governor John Hickenlooper. “Low emissions vehicles are increasingly popular with consumers and are better for our air. Every move we make to safeguard our environment is a move in the right direction.??
The executive order instructs the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to
·
develop a rule to establish a Colorado LEV program, which incorporates the requirements of the California LEV program; and
·
propose that rule to the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission during its August 2018 meeting for possible adoption into the Colorado Code of Regulations by December 30, 2018.
