(May 2, 2018) - Without a doubt, the display of iconic vehicles that embrace style, function and beauty is the hallmark of the Greenwich Concours d'Elegance, celebrating its 23rd year on June 1-3, 2018. Adding to the experience will be a full schedule of events surrounding the eye-catching array of automobiles, motorcycles and one-off creations at the Roger Sherman Baldwin Park overlooking the Greenwich, Conn., harbor on Long Island Sound. On both Saturday and Sunday famed race-car driver and TV commentator David Hobbs will offer his new autobiography, "Hobbo: Motor Racer, Motor Mouth," at a book signing in the Road & Track Pavilion. Times will be announced. On Friday night a Tribute to Briggs Cunningham, whose racing and street cars headline the Concours, will be held at the Cole Auditorium at the Greenwich Library. The evening will include video presentations and a panel discussion on Cunningham's life and career, with Cunningham specialists Miles Collier, Dr. Fred Simeone, Tom Cotter, Rich Taylor and Chuck Schoendorf. Tickets may be purchased at greenwichfilm.org. Sunday's events include an auction by Bonhams of the personal collection of the late racer and designer Carroll Shelby. Two dozen automobiles owned by the legend will be auctioned with no reserve. The auction tent may be viewed on Saturday, with a ticket to the Councours. Attendance to the Sunday auction requires a Concours ticket as well as a $40 fee for two people (available at the Bonhams tent) or a VIP ticket. Quantities are limited. Sunday's auction of automobilia begins at 9:30 a.m., and of motorcars at 12:00 p.m. This year's motorcycle theme is "A Century of Competition Motorcycles" and will showcase Burt Munro's Bonneville record-setting Indian streamliner, along with a wide range of competition motorcycles from the boardtrackers of the early 1900s to a 1960s dragster, an ISDT machine, a 1970s Formula One racer and a recent Isle of Man bike. "I can't think of a more perfect machine than Burt Munro's Indian to highlight this historic event," said Chief Motorcycle Judge, publisher, collector and racer Buzz Kanter. "This is the actual motorcycle Burt built in his tiny shed in New Zealand and brought to America to race at Bonneville. It's what inspired the movie, 'World's Fastest Indian.'" Topping off the weekend will be a special shooting of the Concours for an episode that will air on Velocity TV Network's "Chasing Classic Cars," hosted by Connecticut's own Wayne Carini. "This year's show field should be the best ever," said Mary Wennerstrom, Concours Chairman. "It's turning out to be an historic event, with the stunning collection of Cunningham Cars, plus rare Ferraris, coach-built cars and unique motorcycles." The beneficiary of the Greenwich Concours for the 23rd year is Americares, a health-focused relief and development organization that responds to people affected by poverty or disaster with life-changing health programs, medicine and medical supplies. The Stamford, Conn.-based organization is the world's leading nonprofit provider of donated medicine and medical supplies. VIP tickets are available on a limited basis.
